“Dubai Roads” and “Parkin” warn against scanning unknown QR codes on the poles of public parking signs

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority and Parkin have called on the public to be careful and not to scan or interact with any quick response codes (QR codes) of unclear origin or not issued through official channels, in light of what has been circulated about the presence of unapproved codes on some parking sign poles in the Emirate of Dubai.
The two bodies confirmed that such practices may sometimes be used to try to mislead users or lure them to untrusted websites, which may put their personal or financial data at risk, stressing the need to verify the payment method before using it, and to refrain from entering any information via unreliable links or codes.
The Roads and Transport Authority and Parkin called on the public to rely exclusively on approved and well-known payment methods, such as official applications, the short text message service (SMS), and designated payment devices, while emphasizing the importance of immediately reporting any suspicious observations or materials through official channels, in support of efforts to enhance awareness and protect users.
