Full operation of the secondary development project of China’s first deepwater oil field

BEIJING, 14 DECEMBER WAM/ The China National Offshore Oil Corporation announced today the start of full operation of the secondary development project for the Liuhua oil field, the country’s first deep-water oil field.
The Liuhua oil field is located in the Pearl River estuary basin, and is the largest coral shale offshore oil field in China in terms of proven geological reserves, according to the Chinese “Xinhua” agency.
Since its initial operation in 1996, the field has produced more than 20 million tons of crude oil, and significant reserves of 140 million tons remain in the seabed layers.
The secondary development project includes two oil fields, “Liuhua 1-11” and “Liuhua 1-4”, located in an area with an average water depth of about 305 metres, and the project includes 32 production wells.
Since the start of operation of the first batch of these wells in September 2024, daily crude oil production has risen to a record level of 3,900 tons.
