The Head of State and the Cypriot President discuss strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, discussed today various aspects of cooperation and joint work between the two countries and opportunities to enhance them, especially in the economic and development fields, to serve their common interests, within the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership that brings together the two countries.
This came during a session of talks held by His Highness the President of the State with the Cypriot President at the Presidential Palace in the capital, Nicosia, as part of His Highness’s official visit to Cyprus. At the beginning of the meeting, President Nikos Christodoulides welcomed His Highness the Head of State, expressing his confidence that His Highness’s visit would give a strong impetus to the course of the two countries’ relations at various levels, praising His Highness’s keenness to strengthen these relations.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the opportunities available to develop bilateral relations in all fields, most notably economy, trade, technology and renewable energy, in addition to education, culture, tourism and other vital fields that serve mutual development in the two countries. They stressed that their comprehensive strategic partnership represents an effective framework to advance bilateral relations to broader horizons during the coming period.
The meeting also touched on the Cyprus presidency of the Council of the European Union during the year 2026, expressing their confidence that it will provide more opportunities for dialogue and cooperation between the UAE and the European Union for the good of all.
In this context, His Highness the President of the State stressed the strength of the UAE-Cyprus relations, which are witnessing continuous development, noting that the start of negotiations for the free trade agreement between the UAE and the European Union represents an important step towards opening new horizons for cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and investment between the UAE and Cyprus, as their cooperation advances within the broader framework of the European Union.
The meeting also touched on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, most notably the developments in the Middle East region and the importance of working to consolidate the causes of regional peace and stability. They stressed in this context that the continued cooperation in providing humanitarian support to the residents of the Gaza Strip embodies the two countries’ belief in the importance of joint action to mitigate the humanitarian effects of crises and conflicts, noting that the UAE and Cyprus will continue to cooperate and coordinate with partners in order to intensify aid to the residents of the Strip and make it sustainable through all paths available in Gaza, and they stressed the need to open horizons for dialogue and diplomatic solutions to resolve conflicts in the region and the world.
The talks session was attended by the delegation accompanying His Highness the President during the visit, and from the Cypriot side it was also attended by a number of ministers and senior officials.
His Highness the President left Cyprus at the end of his official visit.
