"Energy and infrastructure" and"Emirates Airlines" They discuss the future of sustainable aviation fuel

Dubai, 15 December / WAM / His Excellency Engineer Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, and the Emirates Airlines delegation headed by Shannon Scott, Vice President of Sustainability and Environment at the Emirates Airlines Group, in the presence of His Excellency Engineer Ahmed Al Kaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Electricity, Water and Future Energy Sector at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, discussed the future directions of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and the possibilities of employing it in the national aviation sector.
The meeting discussed paths related to promoting the use of low-carbon fuel, in a way that supports the UAE’s efforts to reduce emissions and keeps pace with its trends towards enhancing the sustainability of the aviation sector. The most prominent global developments related to sustainable aviation fuel were also reviewed and their implications for the sector’s plans in the country were assessed.
The attendees stressed that the commercial expansion in purchasing this type of fuel is still linked to increased global production levels, availability of supplies, and reduced costs, which requires careful monitoring of international developments and keeping pace with them, pointing out that national efforts are currently focused on enhancing operational efficiency and technical innovation and supporting low-emission energy solutions, in line with the UAE’s trends in the fields of energy and sustainability, and enhancing the competitiveness of the national aviation sector in the future.
In turn, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is keen to follow international developments and align them with national plans and priorities, in addition to enhancing cooperation with relevant national authorities to support the transformation path towards a more efficient and sustainable energy system in the aviation sector.
