One million dollars in donations to Syrian Ahmed Al-Ahmad after he confronted the Sydney gunman

The amazing video clip of Ahmed Al-Ahmad, the Syrian hero who was injured while confronting the armed attacker on Bondi Beach in Sydney, where he was finally able to extract the weapon from him after a long struggle, spread widely across the Internet, prompting the launch of a donation campaign through a website to collect money for the hero, who is still under observation in the hospital.
A fundraising campaign launched on the GoFundMe platform in support of Al-Ahmad and his family has so far collected more than one million US dollars through more than 18,000 donations, including $100,000 from American billionaire Bill Ackerman.
According to the Daily Mail, the Prime Minister of New South Wales, Chris Means, visited the hero in the hospital and praised him for his courage. “There is no doubt that more lives would have been lost had it not been for Ahmed’s courage and dedication,” he said.
Ahmed (43 years old), a father of two children, did not lose sight of the seriousness of the situation. Seconds before he approached the gunman, he told his cousin Gozay Alkang that he was going to die.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported Alcang as saying outside the hospital on Monday morning: “He told me: ‘I’m going to die. Please go to my family and tell them I worked to save lives.’”
“We needed coffee,” Alkang said. “After only ten minutes, it happened. It was crazy. We ran behind cars and saw gunfire nearby.”
Moments later, Ahmed was filmed sneaking through the car park along Campbell Parade, hiding behind parked cars for cover as he made his way towards the shooter. As soon as he approached the alleged gunman, he rushed towards him, and was finally able to extract the weapon from him after a long struggle.
The gunman, 50-year-old Sajid Akram, fell to the ground while Ahmed raised the gun, aiming its barrel at the gunman, who stepped back while Ahmed leaned the weapon against a tree, before a passerby rushed towards the gunman and threw something at him.
Video footage that circulated widely showed the moment when Al-Ahmad attacked the gunman on Sunday evening, where he clashed with him and was able to grab his weapon, despite being hit by two gunshots in the shoulder, after which he was transferred to the hospital to receive treatment.
