Europe backs away from ban on gasoline cars by 2035


It was reported that The European Union will announce today, Tuesday, an easing of the ban on sales of cars powered by conventional fuel, which was scheduled to enter into force in 2035, after pressure from Germany, Italy and some auto industry groups.

The ban on the sale of new cars and trucks powered by diesel and gasoline from 2035 was a historic environmental victory when it was adopted in 2023, with the aim of eliminating carbon dioxide emissions from cars and trucks. Electric cars make up nearly 30% of all cars in Norway, compared to Italy where numbers are growing, but they still represent only 12% of the market, according to November figures.

The consultant said GermanFriedrich Merz on it "supports" Easing restrictions on cars with internal combustion engines, after strongly advocating changes to the rules regarding the abandonment of these engines for several months.
