The Archives, the National Library, and the UAE University are looking into qualifying academic cadres and supporting scientific research

Abu Dhabi, December 17 / WAM / The Archives, the National Library, and the United Arab Emirates University discussed ways to enhance cooperation and develop areas of joint work, in a way that contributes to qualifying academic cadres, supporting scientific research, and exchanging expertise and successful institutional experiences between the two sides.

This came during a meeting with His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Majid Al Ali, Director General of the National Archives and Library, and His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Ali Al-Raisi, Director of the United Arab Emirates University, during which the tasks of the Archives and the National Library in organizing archives of local and federal government agencies were reviewed, in accordance with the provisions of Federal Law No. (7) of 2008 and its executive regulations.

His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Majid Al Ali stressed the importance of the United Arab Emirates University as a pioneering scientific institution in preparing generations capable of contributing to enriching scientific research and building an economy based on knowledge and creativity.

He reviewed the role of the archive and the National Library in preserving records by collecting, classifying, and preserving them according to scientific principles, preserving them from damage, making them available to researchers and the public, preserving memory, supporting scientific research, and ensuring that information reaches future generations.

He also touched on the role of the Conservation and Restoration Center in preserving historical archives, processing old paper containers and film materials, in addition to efforts to build specialized library collections, and reviewed the “Encyclopedia of the History of the United Arab Emirates” project, which is the first comprehensive national scientific encyclopedia that documents the history of the country and its cultural achievements, to be an official and approved reference that covers the various areas of life in a sober scientific and objective manner.

For his part, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Ali Al-Raisi praised the efforts of the Archives and the National Library and its national and cognitive role, stressing the importance of strengthening cooperation with the United Arab Emirates University, as the first national university in the country, and its pioneering academic and research capabilities. He focused on the importance of cooperation in the field of research that deals with various areas of life and institutions in the city of Al Ain, in addition to benefiting from the expertise of the Archives and the National Library in processing ancient manuscripts.

He praised the National Archives and Library’s publications and their research importance for researchers and students, pointing in particular to the book “Zayed: A Journey in Pictures,” which includes 640 photographs, documents the national values ​​established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and embodies his career and achievements locally, Arably, and globally.

The two sides discussed launching two intensive professional programs in the fields of libraries and oral history, which will contribute to developing the skills of students and researchers and improving their academic outcomes.

It was also agreed that the National Archives and Library would be at the forefront of participants in the United Arab Emirates University’s celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of its founding, considering its establishment as a turning point and launching point for higher education in the UAE.
