Floods cause significant damage to Washington state

The governor of the US state of Washington, Bob Ferguson, said that the extent of the damage caused to the state as a result of the floods is large, but it is still not precisely clear, after heavy rains fell for more than a week, and record floods occurred, as, according to meteorology, it is expected that water levels will rise, landslides, and power outages will occur.

The storms dumped about 60 centimeters of rain on parts of the Cascade Mountains, led to a significant rise in water levels, and more than 600 rescue operations were carried out across 10 counties.

As of yesterday, one death had been recorded, of a man who drove his car past warning signs in a flooded area. Some major highways were completely submerged in floodwaters, while other roads were damaged, while entire areas were submerged by water.

Evacuation orders were issued for up to 100,000 people at times, especially in the Skagit River plains north of Seattle.

The National Weather Service reported that rising river levels and the risk of flooding could continue until later this month.
