The Kingdom’s atmosphere is currently affected by An extremely cold polar air masscaused a sharp drop in temperatures to below zero degrees Celsius in some areas, with rare cases of snowfall recorded in the central and northern regions.

The weather condition prompted the National Center of Meteorology to issue strict warnings to citizens and farmers to be careful and avoid traditional heating methods inside enclosed spaces.

Effects of the polar depression

The analyst at the National Center of Meteorology, Aqeel Al-Aqeel, revealed that The current cold waveresulting from a polar depression

Very low temperatures

Manned monitoring stations recorded very low temperatures, as the temperature at Taif Airport “Al-Hawiyah” reached only one degree Celsius, while automatic stations at the peaks of the Tabuk mountains, such as Al-Shifa and Al-Hada, monitored temperatures below zero degrees Celsius, which reflects the intensity of the cold in the highlands.

The effect of the cold mass extended to include the coastal areas of Mecca, Medina and Jeddah, where dry and cold eastern winds contributed to Enhancing the feeling of coldness, in conjunction with the raising of dirt and dust and decreased horizontal visibility over the eastern sector and the central region as a result of differences in atmospheric pressure.

Al-Aqeel explained that the Kingdom has entered the winter season meteorologically since the beginning of December, while winter will begin astronomically on the twenty-first of this month, which means that we are still at the beginning of the season, with expectations of continued weather fluctuations and winter rainfall in the northern, central and eastern regions.

The National Center of Meteorology issued urgent warnings. It calls on farmers and livestock breeders to protect their crops and livestock from expected frost waves, especially in areas that have witnessed recent rainfall, calling on everyone to continuously follow the early warning system.

The center stressed the danger of using charcoal or firewood for heating in enclosed spaces, warning of the danger of suffocation with carbon monoxide, which is a poisonous gas that has no color or smell, advising hikers to stay away from coastal areas now due to the high waves and active winds.
