Dismantling a terrorist cell affiliated with ISIS in the Damascus countryside

The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday the dismantling of a terrorist cell and the arrest of its leader, in addition to six of its members, in the Damascus countryside governorate.

The Commander of Internal Security in the Damascus Countryside Governorate, Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Dalati, said in a statement published by the Ministry today: “The specialized units in Internal Security, in cooperation with the General Intelligence Service, carried out a controlled security operation in the Daraya region, targeting a den of the terrorist organization ISIS, after investigations, accurate intelligence information, and continuous follow-up of the movements of its members during the past weeks.”

He added: “The operation resulted in the complete dismantling of the terrorist cell, the arrest of its leader in addition to six of its members, and the seizure of various weapons and ammunition in their possession, prepared for use in their terrorist activities.”

He pointed out that “the operation was carried out according to the highest levels of planning and precision, with full adherence to precautionary measures to ensure the safety of civilians. The operation reflects the level of coordination between security and intelligence units, and their ability to dismantle terrorist cells.”

He stressed that “this operation comes within an ongoing strategy to dry up the sources of terrorism, prevent any threat to societal security, and achieve peace and stability in it.”
