المملكة: Specialized for "today": "Life on land" It is not an environmental luxury but a pillar of food security

The international advisor for sustainable development, Dr. Matouk Al-Sharif, confirmed that the fifteenth goal of Sustainable development, concerned with “life on land,” represents the main nerve and axis that brings together the rest of the international goals, warning against treating it as an isolated environmental file, given its organic and direct connection to the Food security, public health, economic stability, and the quality of life of communities.
Al-Sharif explained that protecting Wild ecosystems and their preservation are considered the true focal point for any efforts aimed at eliminating poverty and hunger, as human well-being cannot be achieved or health enhanced in isolation from the safety of the land on which they live.
He pointed out that interest in the terrestrial environment directly intersects with education and awareness files, and contributes effectively to empowering local communities economically and socially, in addition to its crucial role in addressing the challenges of climate change and building resilient and sustainable cities.
Goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030
The international consultant linked these global goals to the ambitious goals of the “Kingdom’s Vision 2030”, which adopted a comprehensive development approach and placed environmental protection at the heart of its national programs, making the balance between economic growth and the preservation of natural resources a tangible reality.
He cited the Kingdom’s pioneering initiatives, most notably the “Saudi Green Initiative,” and projects to expand vegetation cover and protect natural reserves, as evidence. As part of the Kingdom’s commitment to achieving this delicate balance that improves the quality of life.
In light of the moderate weather and the onset of the winter season, which witnesses a heavy demand for “kashtat” and land trips, Al-Sharif called for the necessity of activating organized volunteer campaigns aimed at cleaning parks and rehabilitating damaged sites to ensure their sustainability.
Cultivating local plants
He stressed the importance of cultivating local plants and promoting awareness-raising media campaigns that instill responsible environmental behavior and spread the culture of conscious enjoyment. Nature without harming its innate components.
He sent a direct and intense message to enthusiasts of wild trips and hikers, considering that protecting the environment begins with simple individual practices that reflect the individual’s sense of “environmental citizenship.”
He called on hikers to strictly preserve vegetation cover, avoid lighting fires in places other than those designated for them, and completely refrain from leaving waste or tampering with wildlife in camping sites.
Al-Sharif concluded his speech by stressing that The fifteenth goal is the main gateway through which all sustainable development goals pass, indicating that protecting land is essentially protecting humans and their economy, and requires solidarity between volunteer work and community awareness to transform national visions into sustainable impact.
