"External" The Abu Dhabi Sports Council organizes an introductory workshop on… "Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026"

ABU DHABI, December 23, 2017 / WAM / The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, organized an introductory workshop on the “Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026”, as part of a series of introductory workshops scheduled to be organized within the framework of integrated preparations for the United Arab Emirates to host the “Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026”, the global sporting event that is being held for the first time in the Middle East, and attracts more than 25,000 athletes from various countries of the world.

The first workshop, which was held at the General Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, witnessed the presence of His Excellency Omar Obaid Al-Hussan Al Shamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and His Excellency Arif Hamad Al-Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and member of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the Abu Dhabi Masters Games 2026, in addition to the participation of heads of representative missions accredited to the state. This is within the framework of strengthening international communication, and calling on diplomatic missions to coordinate with the relevant sports authorities and associations in their countries, in a way that contributes to expanding the scope of international participation and supporting promotional efforts to host the Abu Dhabi 2026 Masters Games at the global level.

At the beginning of the workshop, His Excellency Omar Obaid Al-Hussan Al Shamsi affirmed that the UAE’s hosting of the Abu Dhabi 2026 Masters Games, for the first time in the Middle East, is in line with the vision of the wise leadership that aims to support sports in all age groups, and enhance the country’s position as a leading global destination in hosting major sporting events and tournaments, and in a way that contributes to strengthening the role of sports as an effective platform to bring people together and enhance the values ​​of civilizational and cultural communication.

His Excellency also highlighted the importance of the workshop as a pivotal station for awareness and coordination with diplomatic missions accredited to the country, reflecting the UAE’s approach to diplomacy, by working closely with diplomatic missions and international partners to enhance communication between peoples, expand the scope of international participation, and consolidate the role of sports as a comprehensive platform that contributes to rapprochement between societies from different parts of the world.

For his part, His Excellency Arif Al Awani stressed that organizing the workshop comes within the framework of early planning and institutional building for the event, and said: “The virtual introductory workshop represents one of the basic pillars of the strategy to prepare for hosting the Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026, as we are keen to unify visions and enhance coordination with various partners, ensuring the presentation of an exceptional version of the tournament that keeps pace with Abu Dhabi’s position on the global sports map,” adding: “The importance of the Masters Games is not limited to its competitive dimension, but extends to include Promoting the concepts of community sports, consolidating a healthy lifestyle, and creating a sustainable legacy that is consistent with the vision of the wise leadership to make sports an engine for development and quality of life.”

Hosting the Abu Dhabi 2026 Masters Games, which will be held from February 6 to 15, 2026, embodies the UAE’s vision of using sport as a soft power, a platform for communication between cultures, and a strategic pillar to enhance its position as a leading global destination in organizing major international events, leaving a sustainable economic and societal impact that extends beyond the event.

In a related context, the Abu Dhabi Masters Games 2026 held a virtual coordination session with ambassadors and heads of the country’s representative missions abroad, which discussed the comprehensive vision of the tournament and its strategic objectives, and also reviewed the roles and responsibilities assigned to the relevant authorities to ensure the success of hosting the event, especially the organizational and technical aspects and mechanisms for the participation of delegations, in accordance with best international practices and standards.
