"Trends" The role of think tanks in supporting sustainable development plans is highlighted in the forum "studies" In Bahrain


Manama, 24 December / WAM / The Trends Center for Research and Consultation, during its participation in the seventh annual forum of the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies “Derasat”, stressed the importance of the growing role played by think tanks in supporting sustainable development plans, and the necessity of transforming the outcomes of scientific research and studies into practical policies that contribute to enhancing comprehensive development paths.
The seventh “Derasat” Forum was held in the Bahraini capital, Manama, under the title “The Complex of Arab Research Centers for Sustainability and Development,” in partnership with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, and with the participation of His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League, and His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transport and Communications in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the “Derasat” Center, along with an elite group of heads of think tanks, officials and experts. Arabs.
Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of the “Trends” Center, participated in the first session of the forum, which was titled “Arab Think Tanks and Sustainable Development/From Knowledge to Impact.” In his intervention, he addressed the importance of the strategic role of think tanks in supporting sustainable development plans, while at the same time reviewing the “Trends” experience in enhancing these efforts.
He stressed that the role of think tanks has evolved over the past years from analyzing issues and providing recommendations, to anticipating future trends and actively participating in supporting decision makers and formulating strategies in various sectors, in a way that contributes to shaping the future and enhancing sustainability.
He pointed out that decision makers need clear and concise messages that help them make quick and effective decisions, stressing the importance of building trust with governmental and non-governmental agencies to ensure the sustainability of cooperation and achieve a tangible impact on the ground.
He pointed out that the contemporary development reality is characterized by increasing complexity and competitiveness, which requires flexible policies that accommodate global transformations and benefit from rapid developments in the fields of technology, artificial intelligence and the digital economy, while emphasizing the importance of shifting from consuming technology to producing it.
Regarding the center’s experience, Dr. Al-Ali explained that “Trends” has provided, for more than a decade, a research model that supports sustainable development, by producing studies that contribute to developing policies related to the circular economy and the knowledge economy, in addition to organizing international conferences, seminars, and workshops that focused on knowledge-based development and keeping pace with technological transformations.
He added that the center contributed to supporting a number of international activities concerned with sustainability, and worked to build global research partnerships that enabled it to provide consulting studies to support development institutions’ plans, in addition to developing specialized knowledge platforms, including the “Trends” knowledge platform and the artificial intelligence platform, in addition to creating a specialized department for artificial intelligence studies and an independent research program concerned with technology as a major driver of future development.
In a related context, His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa honored the “Trends” Center, in appreciation of its role in employing scientific research and knowledge to serve sustainable development efforts.
