Athletes: Community participation is the cornerstone of the success of the Masters Games "Abu Dhabi 2026"
Abu Dhabi, December 26 / WAM / An elite group of athletes and UAE champions called on all members of society to actively participate in the “Masters Games – Abu Dhabi 2026”, to ensure the success of this global event, which will be held for the first time in the Middle East next February, with the participation of more than 25,000 athletes around the world.
These calls coincided with yesterday’s official unveiling of the “Masters Games – Abu Dhabi 2026” medal, where the athletes confirmed that the upcoming event translates the country’s vision of sustaining the quality of life and building an active society, considering participation as a shared responsibility to enhance the UAE’s leadership globally.
In this context, jiu-jitsu champion Omar Al Hosani said that the 2026 Masters Games are a shared responsibility for all athletes in order to participate positively and confirm the UAE’s leadership in providing distinctive initiatives. This was supported by long-distance runner Salem Abdullah Al Hashimi, who has participated in 7 major world marathons, as he stressed that everyone has a great responsibility to participate, confirm the importance of sport in life, community solidarity, and highlight the pivotal role of sport in achieving positive results.
Zaafarana Ahmed Al Hosani, the mother of the two champions, Hamda and Maryam Al Hosani, described her invitation from the organizing committee of the 2026 Masters Games, to attend the official medal launch ceremony, as a great appreciation for her career in supporting the sporting ambitions of people of determination, especially for both Hamda and Maryam, and winning world titles for the UAE.
She said that she encourages everyone to participate in the various sporting events in the Masters Games, and will also participate in the event, based on the importance of sport for health, achieving ambitions, and confirming that everyone stands to raise the name of the UAE before the world.
Player Hamda Al Hosani attributed the reason behind her reaching the best positions in the world with the UAE National Team for People of Determination to her mother’s encouragement, calling for the widest participation from all segments of society in the Masters Games, to highlight the country’s global role in interest in sports, and providing a safe environment to practice it, especially since the events scheduled for next year witness large participation globally.
