Remarkable turnout "Hatta Honey Festival"

Dubai, December 28 / WAM / The second day of the Hatta Honey Festival witnessed a noticeable increase in the number of visitors coming from various emirates of the country and abroad, as they came to enjoy the mild winter weather, see the picturesque natural scenery, and the environmental and cultural diversity that the region abounds, in addition to a package of services and entertainment events that meet the needs of all family members.

The festival, in its tenth session, comes within the framework of the “Hatta Comprehensive Development Plan” launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, and will continue until December 31, presenting a wide variety of Emirati honey with diverse flavors, with the participation of large numbers of beekeepers from various parts of the country.

The festival’s activities witness a remarkable presence of large numbers of tourists who were keen to learn about Hatta honey, which is distinguished by its unique characteristics and is considered one of the ancient industries in the city, in addition to seeing various types produced by the region’s apiaries, in a clear embodiment of the historical and heritage importance of Hatta, and its growing role in enhancing its position as a tourist destination and a major attraction, taking advantage of its diverse natural and environmental components.

The festival’s activities provide the public with a unique opportunity to learn about the types of honey and ways to distinguish between them, as the products displayed include a wide variety, including Sidr, Shouka, Talh, Samar, Salam, Al-Dhahi, Qatad, Summer honey, Al-Sahah, Al-Barsim, Al-Rabi’i honey, and citrus honey.

Manea Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Hatta Traders Council, praised the quality and cleanliness of Emirati honey, considering that local production has reached international levels in terms of standards and specifications.

Al Kaabi pointed out that there are pioneering projects currently being implemented, focusing on preserving and sustaining the “Emirati breed” of bees, through hybridization, development and specifications improvement programmes, ensuring the continuity of this environmental and economic legacy for future generations.

Hind Mahmoud, Director of the Dubai Central Laboratory Department at Dubai Municipality, confirmed to WAM that the Dubai Smart Mobile Laboratory provided free honey checks throughout the festival days, noting that this year’s edition represents a qualitative leap compared to previous years, by adopting a digital identity for honey that enhances the product’s reliability and transparency.

In a step that reflects Dubai Municipality’s move towards digital transformation, it explained that the Dubai Central Laboratory, during its participation in the tenth edition of the festival, launched a smart “robot” named “Assal”, as this year manual sample collection operations were replaced with advanced technical innovation.

The smart robot collects samples of honey and its derivatives from all participating exhibitors through tubes designated for each exhibitor, according to an organized mechanism that includes three rounds per day throughout the festival, with 60 samples drawn in each survey round.

A number of participating beekeepers confirmed, in statements to WAM, that the festival achieved remarkable success in terms of public demand, and consolidated its position as one of the most prominent platforms supporting Emirati honey, known for its high quality and nutritional and medicinal value.
