Launching of the falconry competition within the Al Dhafra Festival

Al Dhafra, December 28 / WAM / The falconry competition began this morning at the Events Field in Madinat Zayed as part of the nineteenth Al Dhafra Festival, organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and the Abu Dhabi Falconers Club, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
The competitions will be held over 3 days until December 30, including 12 rounds, 8 rounds for the chicken category, including 4 for the owners category, and 4 for the general category, in the categories of Gir Pure, Gir Shaheen, Qarmousha Gir, and Gir Taba, in addition to 4 other rounds for the Jarnas category, with two halves for the general and owners categories.
The first-half competitions for the General Open category – Gear Pure Farkh resulted in the Al-Fursan team winning first place, with Rashid Saeed Ali bin Saroud Al-Suwaidi coming in second, and Abdullah Khalfan Butti Salem Al-Suwaidi coming in third.
The Dubai team topped the second half of the General Open category, Jire Shaheen – Chicken, and Abdullah Khalfan Butti Salem Al Qubaisi came second, and Abdullah Khalfan Butti Salem Al Qubaisi came third. The Dubai team also won the third half of the General Open category – Chicken, and the Meydan team came in runner-up, and third place went to the Al-Sairmi team.
The fourth round of the General Open category – Gear Taba Farkh witnessed the Al-Sairmi team winning first and second places, and Rashid Saeed Ali bin Saroud Al-Mansouri came third.
His Excellency Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of the Festivals and Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, said that the falconry competition reflects the support of the wise leadership for this sport, and its role in preserving the authentic heritage of falconry, transmitting it to successive generations, and promoting the concept of sustainable hunting among falconers and traditional hunting enthusiasts.
He added that the competition is witnessing a wide demand from falconers, and is linked to and rooted in popular heritage. It is organized annually within the festival, to develop its presence and increase interaction with it among members of the Emirati community, residents and visitors to the country.
In turn, Sultan Al Mahmoud, Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Falconers Club, confirmed that the Al Dhafra Falconry Festival Competition is one of the authentic events within its sessions, and is widely accepted by falconers, due to the heritage and cultural value it represents. He expressed his appreciation to all the participating falconers, their high sportsmanship, and their keenness to care for and nurture falcons, as it is an inherent value in the heritage of Emirati falconry.
