Finnish Oulu and Slovakian Trenčín chosen as European Capitals of Culture for 2026

Brussels, January 1, 2017: The cities of Oulu in Finland and Trencin in Slovakia have been chosen as European Capitals of Culture for the year 2026.
Every year, the European Union chooses a number of cities to be European Capitals of Culture, with the aim of highlighting the cultural diversity in Europe and celebrating the distinctive culture and arts of each region.
The two cities succeed Chemnitz in the German state of Saxony, and the twin border cities of Nova Gorica/Gorisia on the Slovenian-Italian border.
