90% completion of the first phase of the “seawater desalination” plant in the Hasyan complex

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority announced the completion of about 90% of the first phase of the seawater desalination plant in the Hassyan complex, noting that all phases of the plant are scheduled to be completed during the first quarter of 2027. The Hassyan plant, with investments amounting to 3 billion and 377 million dirhams, is one of the largest projects in the world to produce water using the “reverse osmosis” technology for seawater, and the authority’s first project in the field of independent water producer.
During his inspection of the work progress in the first phase of the station, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, confirmed that the project embodies the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, to provide an advanced and integrated energy and water infrastructure that keeps pace with the rapid growth in Dubai and meets the increasing demand for water services in line with the water security policy and sustainable development plans, pointing out that the project comes within the framework of the Authority’s strategy to increase capacity. Productivity of desalination in Dubai. He explained that the Authority is working to build desalination plants that rely on “reverse osmosis” technology for seawater, which requires less energy than multi-stage distillation plants, making it a more sustainable option for water desalination.
By 2030, the Authority will add 240 million gallons to its daily production capacity of desalinated water using seawater reverse osmosis technology, as the Authority aims to produce 100% of desalinated water using a combination of clean energy and waste heat.
Al Tayer visited the various sections of the project, which represents a fundamental pillar in supporting smart desalinated water infrastructure and promoting the objectives of the Integrated Water Resources Management Strategy 2030, where Hassyan Water Company officials provided detailed explanations and presentations on the progress of the work.
