A large segment of the public may not know the real name of their silent comedy star, “Mr.

Today, Tuesday, January 6, Rowan Sebastian Atkinson celebrates his seventy-first birthday. He is an English actor, comedian, and screenwriter. In Rowan Atkinson’s biography, there are important works, but they remained confined to his European scope, in his artistic beginnings, such as the program “Not the Nine O’Clock News,” which he presented as a comedy sketch program, between 1979 and 1982, and his participation in the program “Secret Policeman’s Balls” in 1979. In 1981, he won the “British Academy Television Award for Best Entertainment Performance.” Atkinson is also considered one of the fifty best comedians in British history, and he has achieved more success in more than one opinion poll.

Rowan Atkinson was born in Consett, in the county of Durham in northeastern England, and is the youngest of four children. His father, Eric Atkinson, was a farmer and company director, and his mother, Ella May, was married on June 29, 1945. His three older brothers are: “Paul,” who died as an infant, “Rodney,” an anti-European Union economist who almost won the leadership of the United Kingdom Independence Party in the 2000 elections, and “Robert.”

Rowan Atkinson, in particular, is known for his use of physical comedy as Mr. Bean, while his other characters rely more on language. Rowan Atkinson often played the roles of “authoritarian figures”, especially priests or shepherds, and spoke absurd sentences in a completely dry, expressionless manner.

The international star often relies on visual comedy in his works, which makes him different from most contemporary comedians in television and cinema, who rely mainly on dialogue. This distinction in visual comedy has earned him the nickname “The Man with the Rubber Face.”

After many years of global fame and success, Rowan Atkinson decided to retire in 2012, and he remained true to his promise, until the global Netflix platform was able to return him, once again, to the character of “Mr. Bean” twice: the first in 2022, through the series “Man vs. Bee.” The second: the year 2025 in the “Man vs. Child” series, where he brought many of his audience (forty-year-old, fifty-year-old, and sixty-year-old) back to their old memories with “Mr. Bean.”
