Unemployment rate in Italy drops to 5.7%

Rome, January 8 / WAM / The unemployment rate in Italy fell to 5.7% last November, a decline of 0.1 percentage point from October, reaching its lowest level ever since the start of the statistical series in 2004.

The Italian news agency ANSA quoted preliminary data issued by the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) that the unemployment rate among young people (under the age of 25) active in the labor market decreased by 0.8 points to reach 18.8%.

The institute added that the rate of inactivity (economic inactivity) increased by 0.2 points to reach 33.5%.

Istat reported that the number of workers in Italy reached 24.188 million people in November 2025, which represents a decrease of 34,000 people compared to October, but an increase of 179,000 people compared to the same month in 2024.

The institute indicated that the employment rate decreased by 0.1 point compared to October to settle at 62.6%, noting that this percentage is still 0.3 points higher than it was in November 2024.
