Sharjah, 8 January / WAM / Sharjah Public Libraries concluded the program to celebrate the centenary of its founding with an interactive theatrical show held yesterday evening in the “Heart of Sharjah” and creative artistic workshops held in “Kashisha Park” in the Rahmaniyah area under the title “Aesthetics of Image and Literary Sound” with the aim of consolidating the culture of reading and building a knowledge society.
The libraries event in the “Heart of Sharjah” witnessed the presentation of an interactive puppet play for children from the age group of 6 to 13 years, which was held in cooperation with “Rubu Qarn for Theater and Performing Arts,” where the children were taken on a journey through time that stopped at the most prominent stations in the development of Sharjah libraries, from old paper books to modern digital transformations.
The Sharjah Public Libraries event at Kashisha Park included two interactive workshops. The first Foundations of Photography workshop focused on introducing children to the foundations of creative photography, while the second workshop provided an applied experience for converting text into visual formation.
As part of its program to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding, Sharjah Public Libraries has implemented, since the beginning of the year, a series of activities divided into four main axes. The first axis – Literary Beginnings, included the “Literary Roots” activities, including a symposium, a campaign supporting reading, and an interactive workshop for creative writing, in addition to the “Cultural Renaissance” event, which provided a cultural tour to the libraries of the Eastern Region, poetry readings, literary texts, and a dialogue symposium.
While the second axis focused on “Cultural Civilization,” the “Tales of Heritage” event included a discussion workshop, interactive workshops for traditional costumes, and competitions for children, in addition to the “Reviving Forgotten Pages” event, which included a lecture on the home library and “Book Clinic” workshops, in addition to an experience related to the history of ancient writing within a museum tour and practical applications.
The third axis, “Horizons of Writers and Poets,” included the “Cultural Message” event, with an intellectual lecture and an artistic workshop on Arabic calligraphy and Islamic ornamentation, in addition to literary and poetic events, including “Songs of the Sea and Poetry” and “From Ink to Poetry,” which combined dialogue sessions, poetic recitation, and calligraphy workshops.
The libraries concluded their celebrations of the fourth theme, “Cultural Sustainability,” through the “Between Story and Craft” event, which highlighted the palm tree in Emirati culture and applied experiments on paper making and the design of reading and artistic products, reflecting the diversity of programs presented by the libraries to celebrate its centenary and consolidate reading as a renewable community practice that intersects with heritage, arts, and creativity, in addition to puppet play and Kashasha Park activities.
