Korea records the largest current account surplus in November 2025

SEOUL, January 9, 2020 (WAM) – The Republic of Korea recorded the largest current account surplus ever in November 2025, supported by strong exports, according to data issued by the Central Bank of Korea, today, Friday.
The Korean Yonhap News Agency reported that the country’s current account surplus reached $12.24 billion during November, a sharp increase from $6.81 billion during the previous month, according to the data.
This is the largest amount ever for any November since data collection began in 1980.
The country has recorded a current account surplus every month since May 2023, marking the second-longest string of surpluses on record.
During the first 11 months of last year, the cumulative surplus amounted to $101.82 billion, compared to $86.68 billion during the same period in 2024, which represents the largest amount ever recorded for the aforementioned period.
The goods account achieved a surplus of $13.31 billion during November, compared to $7.82 billion during the previous month, and exports rose by 5.5% on an annual basis to $60.11 billion thanks to strong exports in semiconductors and cars.
Imports decreased by 0.7% to $46.8 billion during November, compared to $47.1 billion during the same month in 2024.
The services account recorded a deficit of $2.73 billion during November, down from $3.75 billion during the previous month. This was due to a decline in the number of travelers abroad after its sharp increase during the Chuseok holiday in October.
The primary income account, which includes the wages of foreign workers in addition to dividends and interest from abroad, recorded a surplus of $1.83 billion during November, a decrease of more than $1.1 billion during the previous month ($2.94 billion).
The data showed that the secondary income account recorded a deficit of $180 million.
In the financial account, net assets increased by $8.27 billion during November, compared to $6.81 billion during the previous month.
