“Historic Jeddah” embraces the future of Arabic calligraphy with the participation of 10 international artists
The “Historic Jeddah” area is hosting the activities of the second edition of the artistic residency program organized by the Prince Mohammed bin Salman International Center for Arabic Calligraphy “Dar Al-Qalam”, with the participation of an elite group of ten local and international artists and calligraphers, in a step aimed at integrating the authenticity of Creative paths for participating artists.
The integrated artistic program, which extended for eight weeks, witnessed a rich mix of advanced workshops, qualitative lectures, and executive meetings, in addition to conducting extensive creative research to develop artistic practices.
The program aimed to provide a free creative space that allows calligraphers and artists the opportunity to think and experiment, and to create a space for open dialogue about the future of this ancient art and its contemporary challenges.
It included The list of participants is illustrious names specializing in Arabic calligraphy and visual arts. They were carefully selected according to strict artistic standards by a specialized committee, in line with the initiative’s objectives in enhancing the presence of Arabic calligraphy in the modern cultural scene.
The residency provided participants with a practical program that included applied workshops, critical sessions to evaluate works, and inspiring field tours, as well as direct meetings with experts and specialists in this field.
The artistic vision for this edition was based on exploring Arabic calligraphy as a living art. And renewed, it boldly intersects with modern arts such as art, ceramics, architecture, and textiles.
Modern technologies recorded a remarkable presence in the residency work, as Arabic calligraphy was combined with artificial intelligence techniques and light arts, to provide artistic templates that blend heritage and the future.
