Yesterday, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, witnessed the opening ceremony of the “Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026”, the global platform concerned with accelerating the pace of sustainability, which is held under the slogan “An Integrated Start to the Future” at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).

The opening was also attended by His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office for Development Affairs and Families of Martyrs, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office for Special Affairs, and Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al. Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Advisor to His Highness the President of the State, and a number of sheikhs, ministers, senior officials, leaders of countries, heads of their governments and representatives, in addition to experts, stakeholders and specialists in the fields of sustainability, and state guests from around the world.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed the UAE guests and said that the UAE continues to consolidate its role in strengthening international partnerships and joint work, by bringing together world leaders, decision-makers and investors to agree on strategies that contribute to transforming visions and ambitions into practical solutions and support global sustainability goals.

His Highness pointed out that “Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026” embodies the UAE’s pivotal role in building bridges of cooperation, and its commitment to consolidating the foundations of sustainable development in the world, and achieving the stability, well-being and prosperity that people aspire to.

His Highness said that the world is witnessing rapid transformations in the fields of advanced technologies and the digital economy, stressing that Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week constitutes an important platform for exchanging experiences and reviewing innovative solutions, especially based on artificial intelligence, in a way that enhances the efficiency and flexibility of sectors, and supports achieving balanced and comprehensive economic growth that keeps pace with global aspirations.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said, in a blog post on the “X” platform, yesterday: “I welcome the UAE’s guests, leaders, officials and experts, to (Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week), which represents an annual platform for global dialogue, in order to formulate innovative solutions that promote sustainable development and serve humanity.” His Highness added: “The UAE is an active partner in building global solutions that achieve development and prosperity for future generations, and believes that international cooperation, innovation and partnerships are the basis for facing the challenges of the future.”

The opening ceremony began with the UAE’s national anthem, then a film was shown that focused on the necessity of achieving integration between systems and sectors to build a sustainable future.

The Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Masdar, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the leaders of countries, their representatives and guests, praising the wise leadership’s support for the clean and sustainable energy sector.

He pointed out that growth in the UAE is based on a realistic and practical methodology, is guided by the forward-looking vision of the leadership, and is driven by ambitious and long-term goals, noting the country’s global standing, its keenness to cooperate and build partnerships, and its leadership in the fields of energy, industry and advanced technology, which is a fundamental driver of economic development.

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026 will be held under the slogan “An Integrated Start to the Future,” while providing an opportunity for experts and specialists in the energy, finance, food, water, and environment sectors to develop new solutions that will support the interconnection between these systems and sectors, expand the scope of their influence, and enhance integration among them.

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026 aims to establish a global model to enhance constructive and fruitful cooperation between these sectors, to achieve tangible results and broad impact.

The activities of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week will continue until January 15, and were launched to coincide with the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), on January 11 and 12, while the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit will be held on January 13 and 14, and the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week dialogues, the World Future Energy Summit, and the Youth for Sustainability Forum and Center will be held from January 13 to 15. The annual WISE Forum, the Global South Utilities Forum, on January 14, the Green Hydrogen Summit, the Investor Communication Initiative of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, the Blue Economy Forum, and the annual meeting of the Global Center for Climate Finance on January 15.
