Most organizations in the world have 50% more employees than needed

The founder of Emaar Properties, Mohamed Alabbar, said that artificial intelligence is reshaping the work environment, and the abundance of employment is an old culture, stressing that artificial intelligence is now playing a major role in the business world today, warning that its impact is greater and more dangerous than many expect.
Al-Abbar mentioned during the Dubai International Project Management Forum that many organizations around the world are suffering from an inflation in the number of employees, pointing out that most organizations in the world have more than 50% more employees than their actual need, describing this as the result of an “old culture” that depends on a large number of employees instead of efficiency.
Al-Abbar explained that he does not favor expanding employment, stressing that the focus should be on productivity and quality of work, not on the number of workers.
In this context, Al-Abbar revealed practical steps taken by his company to enhance efficiency, as meetings were completely banned during the month of September, including “Teams” and “Zoom” meetings.
He pointed out that work does not always require meetings, giving an example by saying: “The matter is simple: Can you perform open-heart surgery because the patient is dying? Decision and implementation require direct action, not discussion,” stressing that reducing meetings speeds up achievement and raises the quality of performance.
