Venezuela begins releasing Americans from its prisons… and “X” returns to the country

Venezuela has begun releasing Americans in its prisons, according to what a US official said, praising the step taken by the interim leadership in Caracas after Washington ousted President Nicolas Maduro, while the “X” platform became available again in the country, after Maduro banned it for more than a year.

A State Department official, who requested anonymity, said: “We welcome the release of Americans detained in Venezuela. It is an important step in the right direction on the part of the interim authorities.”

Maduro’s deputy, Delcy Rodriguez, who became the country’s acting president, ordered the release of prisoners following the US attack, and President Donald Trump praised the initiative, saying that in response he called off a second wave of strikes.

Several people were imprisoned for participating in protests against the 2024 elections, in which Maduro was declared the winner despite allegations of fraud, and Venezuela had previously released Spanish and Italian citizens from its prisons.

The United States has long made the release of its citizens imprisoned abroad a major priority, and guaranteed the freedom of some in an agreement with Maduro last year.

On the other hand, the “X” platform has become available again in Venezuela, after Maduro banned it for more than a year.

Rodriguez wrote on her account on the platform: “We are reconnecting through this platform (X) in order to remain united and move towards economic stability, social justice, and the welfare state that we deserve to aspire to.”
