The President of Paraguay praises the UAE’s economic model and comprehensive economic partnership agreements

Asunción – Paraguay, July 1, 2017 – His Excellency Santiago Peña, President of the Republic of Paraguay, confirmed that relations with the UAE are witnessing rapid development, expressing his country’s aspiration to advance them towards a new stage based on joint investment, innovation, and building long-term strategic partnerships that serve the common interests of the two countries.

This came during the activities of the UAE-Paraguay Business Forum, which was held in the capital, Asuncion, in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, and a number of senior officials and businessmen from the two countries.

His Excellency the President of Paraguay welcomed the UAE economic delegation, stressing that the visit reflects the strength of bilateral relations and represents an extension of the joint efforts initiated by the two countries to enhance economic and trade cooperation.

He pointed out that the visit of Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, to Paraguay last March contributed to opening new horizons for cooperation between the government and private sectors, and reviewing investment opportunities in the fields of logistics services, energy, food security, technology, finance and tourism.

He explained that relations between the two countries have achieved tangible results, including progress in the suburban train project, which has Emirati support, in addition to opening the UAE market to poultry exports from Paraguay, and preparing to export the first shipment of beef to the UAE, which reflects the growing trade cooperation between the two sides.

The President of Paraguay praised the economic model of the UAE and the success it has achieved in consolidating its position as a global center for trade and investment, through a policy of economic openness, concluding comprehensive economic partnership agreements, and attracting foreign direct investments.

He called for expanding areas of cooperation between the two countries to include investment in infrastructure, logistics services, clean energy, green hydrogen, and data centers, in addition to strengthening partnerships in the field of food security, and developing financing mechanisms for joint projects.

He stressed that the governments of the two countries are working to provide the appropriate environment to support the private sector, stressing that converting available opportunities into successful investments and projects depends on the partnerships of businessmen in the two countries.

He also stressed that the UAE delegation’s visit represents the beginning of a new phase of bilateral relations, based on investment, innovation and promoting sustainable development for the benefit of the two friendly peoples.

He pointed out that his country provides an attractive investment environment, based on strong economic indicators, including achieving the investment classification, and expectations of economic growth exceeding 4% during the current year, with inflation rates continuing at low levels, unemployment declining, and the capital market recording historic growth.
