Reem Al Hashemi begins a tour in Latin America with visits to Mercosur countries

Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, began her tour in Latin America with visits to the member states of the Mercosur group, namely Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, stressing the UAE’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding areas of cooperation in priority sectors, in a way that supports sustainable growth and common prosperity.

Al Hashemi met with the President of the Republic of Uruguay, Yamando Orci, and the President of the Republic of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, and conveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him,” and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Presidential Court.

Al Hashemi also expressed their wishes for further progress and prosperity for the friendly peoples of Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.

As part of her visits, Al Hashemi held meetings with senior government officials in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, which included discussions with Uruguayan Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin, Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Cuerno, Argentine Economy Minister Luis Caputo, and Paraguayan Minister of Industry and Trade Javier Jiménez.

During these meetings, Al Hashemi congratulated the completion of the trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, and stressed that completing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and Mercosur is a priority for the UAE.

She also held talks with Uruguayan Vice President Carolina Cusi, Uruguayan Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries Alfredo Frati, and Argentine Speaker of the House of Representatives Martin Menem.

The discussions highlighted the importance of cooperation in the fields of technology, infrastructure, energy, mining, and agricultural industries.

Al Hashemi also met with the President of the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Jorge Macri, at the famous Colon Theater, where she was announced as the city’s guest of honor.

The visits included holding high-level business meetings with a group of senior executives and influential stakeholders in Argentina and Paraguay, covering various sectors, during which ways to facilitate increased private sector participation in the economies of the two countries were discussed.

As an expression of the UAE’s respect for the rich history and heritage of Latin America, Her Excellency visited the “Gaucho and Currency” Museum in Uruguay, stressing the importance of cultural exchange and relations between peoples in strengthening bilateral relations.

During the visit, Al Hashimi was accompanied by the UAE Ambassador to the Argentine Republic, the non-resident Ambassador to the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, Saeed Abdullah Al Qamzi, and the UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Paraguay, Dr. Saghira Al Ahbabi, along with a delegation of government officials.
