We are keen to expand the horizons of cooperation with UNESCO

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairwoman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, met with Khaled Al-Anani, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), on the sidelines of the 56th session of the World Economic Forum meetings held in the Swiss city of Davos during the period from January 19 to 23.
The meeting was attended by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, and Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, along with a number of senior officials from both sides.
The meeting took place within the framework of the UAE’s active participation in the work of the World Economic Forum, which is a high-level international platform that brings together leaders of countries, decision-makers, international organizations and experts, to discuss global development and economic issues, and explore paths of international cooperation in various vital fields.
The meeting discussed the UAE’s vision in the fields of education, culture, heritage and knowledge, which is consistent with the work of UNESCO, and its role in protecting human heritage, supporting cultural and creative industries, and promoting education and scientific research.
Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum pointed out that culture, education and science represent basic pillars for sustainable development, building prosperous societies, enhancing identity, and consolidating the values of dialogue and understanding between peoples. Her Highness stressed the UAE’s keenness to expand the horizons of cooperation with the organization in all these fields, in a way that contributes to exchanging experiences, developing cultural policies, and supporting knowledge initiatives at the regional and international levels.
The meeting discussed a set of common topics related to cultural and development affairs, including preserving tangible and intangible heritage, supporting the creative economy, enhancing the role of culture in achieving comprehensive development, in addition to empowering communities through education and knowledge, and benefiting from successful global experiences in these fields.
The importance of regional and international coordination during the current stage, in light of the accelerating global changes, and the pivotal role of culture and education in building bridges of communication between countries, enhancing societal stability, and supporting sustainable development paths, were also discussed.
