Khalifa University showcases its achievements in climate action during Davos

DAVOS, 21st January, 2017 (WAM) – His Excellency Professor Ibrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University of Science and Technology, reviewed the university’s achievements in the fields of climate action and sustainability, on the sidelines of the activities of the 56th session of the World Economic Forum held in the Swiss city of Davos.
His Excellency also participated with global university and industrial sector leaders in developing a more adaptable partnership strategy between academia and industry aimed at addressing the changes taking place in the global economic environment.
During his presentation, he stressed the importance of Khalifa University’s integrated approach to climate action, including cutting-edge research, academic programs and partnerships that support national priorities and global sustainability agendas.
In Davos, His Excellency met with Luming Li, President of Tsinghua University, Louis Vassy, President of Sciences Po in Paris, Deborah Prentice, Vice President of the University of Cambridge, and Evelyn Wang, Vice President of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, member of the International Alliance of Universities on Climate, where they discussed strengthening partnership relations with leaders of universities and the industrial sector worldwide and participating with them in developing a more adaptive strategy between academic and industrial circles to confront the global economic arena that is witnessing successive changes.
He also met with Eisako Ito, President and Executive Vice President of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and other representatives of global leading companies in the industrial sector.
On his visit to Davos 2026, His Excellency Professor Ibrahim Al-Hajri was accompanied by Dr. Ashraf Al-Najdawi, Vice President for External Relations and Chairman of the Administrative Board at Khalifa University, and Professor Samuel Mao, Co-Chair of the University Climate Network in the UAE and Director of the Aspire Institute for Sustainability Research.
His Excellency said that international cooperation is essential to achieving climate solutions on a large scale, and within the framework of the UAE’s keenness on global participation, we seek to deepen partnership relations with leading universities and institutions to contribute to developing technologies, exchanging data, and preparing qualified cadres that enhance their impact in various regions.
He added: Climate work at Khalifa University is in line with the strategic initiative announced by the UAE to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and with the directions emerging from the COP28 climate conference. Thus, our mission lies in transforming pioneering research into practical solutions that enhance flexibility, accelerate the reduction of carbon emissions harmful to the environment, and contribute to achieving the UAE’s vision of achieving a sustainable, knowledge-based economy.
Khalifa University’s climate research portfolio includes more than 350 issued patents, more than 800 announced inventions, projects and startups in collaboration with international partners from the academic and industrial sectors from more than 20 countries.
