"source" and"Emirates Facilities Development" We are developing a large-scale renewable energy project in Uzbekistan

ABU DHABI, 22nd JANUARY / WAM / Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar”, a global leader in the field of clean energy, signed a cooperation agreement with the Emirates Utilities Development Company (EUDC) and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, to develop a large-scale clean energy project that provides 24-hour supplies in Uzbekistan.

This cooperation will combine the expertise of Masdar in the clean energy sector and EUDC as an entity concerned with the development of large-scale projects, supporting the achievement of Uzbekistan’s clean energy goals through constructive partnerships that transcend borders.

The ceremony for exchanging documents related to the agreement was held in the presence of His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, His Excellency Jamshid Khojayev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, His Excellency Jorabek Mirzamamudov, Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, and Muhammad Jamil Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar.

The proposed project will provide up to 1 GW of base load power, and the power buyer will be GSC Ozynergosutich, a public joint-stock company in Uzbekistan.

This announcement comes a year after Masdar launched the first and largest project of its kind in the world that combines solar energy and battery storage systems during the activities of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025.

His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei said that this partnership reflects the UAE’s commitment to supporting the global transformation in the energy sector, through strategic partnerships and innovative projects that contribute to raising the efficiency of clean and renewable energy sources, and providing reliable supplies that support economic growth and enhance energy security.

He valued the solid partnership with the Republic of Uzbekistan, looking forward to expanding the horizons of cooperation in the fields of clean energy and sustainable infrastructure, expressing pride in Masdar’s pioneering role in implementing qualitative projects that embody the national vision of the UAE, and translating it into pioneering initiatives that consolidate the country’s position as a reliable partner in building sustainable energy systems.

For his part, Mohammed Jameel Al Ramahi said that Masdar plays an active role in finding solutions to the instability of energy supplies by developing projects that provide continuous renewable energy around the clock, which contributes to enhancing the sector’s role in supporting the digital age.

He stressed the keenness to employ Masdar’s twenty years of experience in the field of clean energy and storage, to provide reliable and sustainable energy on a large scale that meets current customer needs and supports their future goals. He looks forward to working with partners to move forward in implementing this project, and to continuing cooperation with the government of Uzbekistan, to contribute to supporting the achievement of its ambitious goals in the field of clean energy.

Engineer Yousef Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of Union Water and Electricity Company and Chairman of the Board of Directors of its subsidiary Emirates Facilities Development Company, said that this cooperation comes within the framework of Emirates Facilities Development Company’s commitment to working with reliable partners to develop clean energy solutions capable of providing stable and sustainable supplies.

He added that the company, through its cooperation with “Masdar” and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is exploring opportunities to develop a promising project that contributes to achieving Uzbekistan’s goals in the clean energy sector, and constitutes a model for effective partnerships in this vital sector.

The project will contribute to strengthening Masdar’s portfolio of renewable energy projects in Uzbekistan, which has a total capacity of about 2 gigawatts with investments exceeding 2 billion US dollars.

In November 2025, Masdar also signed an agreement in the field of energy storage with GSC Ozynergosutech, to develop the largest independent energy storage battery project in the country, with a capacity of 300 MW/600 MWh, in the Navoi region of Uzbekistan.

Masdar is committed to developing a solar photovoltaic power station with a capacity of 5.2 gigawatts equipped with a battery system for energy storage with a capacity of 19 gigawatt hours in cooperation with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company. The station that will be established in Abu Dhabi is considered the largest and most advanced of its kind in the world.

In May 2025, Masdar signed a cooperation agreement with the sovereign wealth fund of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Samruk-Kaznia, to discuss opportunities to develop a renewable energy project with continuous supplies around the clock, and a base load capacity of up to 500 megawatts.

Projects capable of providing renewable energy around the clock represent a qualitative leap at the sector level, as they overcome the problem of supply instability by producing large-scale base load energy at a globally competitive cost. They also provide a model that can be replicated in different regions of the world to meet the growing demand for clean and reliable energy sources.

The CIS region is a strategic market for Masdar, which aims to increase the production capacity of its global project portfolio to 100 gigawatts by 2030. In addition to Uzbekistan, Masdar is also active in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries.
