Hamdan bin Zayed directs the allocation of one million dirhams to purchase books from the Al Dhafra Book Festival 2026

Al Dhafra, 22nd January / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, directed the provision of a financial grant worth one million dirhams to purchase books and various sources of knowledge directly from the publishing houses participating in the sixth session of the Al Dhafra Book Festival, which is organized by the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language of the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, in support of the cultural movement and the publishing sector, and in a way that contributes to consolidating reading as a sustainable community practice, and promoting The role of libraries and educational and knowledge institutions in the Al Dhafra region.

This trend is consistent with the contents of the Year of the Family, by supporting initiatives that enhance the presence of knowledge in family life, and expanding the circle of access to books as a pillar of cultural upbringing and awareness-building, thus enhancing the cultural status of the festival as a bridge linking books to society, supporting publishers, deepening the impact of diverse knowledge content, and keeping pace with the trends of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in building a reading society and an advanced knowledge economy.

His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim, President of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, said: We highly value the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, and his continued keenness to support the progress of the Al Dhafra Book Festival, which has been and continues to be an essential lever for the qualitative growth and continuous development the festival is witnessing, by harnessing the capabilities and responding to the cultural and cognitive needs of society.

He added: We are proud of this grant, which will play an effective role in enhancing the cultural and knowledge process in the UAE. It will enhance reading in the Al Dhafra region and expand the scope of definition of its ancient history and authentic heritage. It also contributes to keeping the book in its original position as the cornerstone of the advancement and renaissance of societies. It reflects the country’s leadership’s keenness to support reading, the creative industries sector, and the publishing movement, as an extension of the UAE’s approach to consolidating its position as a global center for the publishing industry and enhancing the presence of… The Arabic language in the cognitive space.

In implementing this grant, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center adopted a mechanism based on direct purchase from the Al Dhafra Book Festival, which it organizes during the period from January 19 to 25, to ensure that support is directed towards meeting the actual needs of the beneficiaries in the Al Dhafra region, and at the same time enhances the publishing movement and support for participating publishers.

In its sixth session, the Al Dhafra Book Festival witnesses the participation of more than 110 publishers presenting more than 30,000 titles in various fields of knowledge, in addition to an integrated cultural and interactive program that includes 375 events targeting various segments of society, with a special focus on the family, in line with the “Year of the Family.”

This initiative, with its cultural and developmental dimensions, embodies the commitment of the UAE leadership to enhance the cultural movement and expand the sustainable impact of cultural events in various regions, which contributes to consolidating the position of the Al Dhafra Book Festival as a strategic platform for supporting knowledge and creativity, and enhancing the presence of the Al Dhafra region in the national cultural scene, within an integrated vision to build a knowledge society that adheres to its language and identity, and is capable of continuing the process of sustainable cultural development in the UAE.
