$1.38 billion in South Korean coffee imports in 2025

SEOUL, January 25 (WAM) – South Korea imported more than two trillion won (US$1.38 billion) worth of coffee in 2025, surpassing the two trillion won mark for the first time in its history, largely due to rising global prices and a weak Korean won, data showed on Sunday.
Coffee imports reached 2.65 trillion won last year, an increase of 41% from 2024, according to data issued by the Korea Agricultural, Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation.
In dollars, coffee imports jumped by 35% year-on-year to reach $1.86 billion from $1.38 billion during the aforementioned period.
This sharp rise is largely due to recent increases in global coffee prices, which reached a record high of more than $4 per pound in February 2025, before falling to about $3.50.
The weakness of the local currency has also led to an increase in the amount of won-denominated coffee imports, as the Korean won fell to its lowest levels in many years over the past year.
Coffee imports in 2025 decreased in volume by 46 tons compared to the previous year, reaching 215,792 tons.
