After observing unexpected results… schools repeat the diagnostic test for their students in English

The administrations of public and private schools that implement the Ministry of Education’s curriculum decided to re-implement the diagnostic test in the English language subject for students in all grades on Tuesday, January 27, in order to improve the academic level of students.
The schools reported in letters to parents and students, seen by Emirates Today, that this decision comes after monitoring unexpected results in the diagnostic test that was applied at the beginning of the second semester, where a number of students received low grades that do not reflect their actual levels.
School administrations explained that these results may be due to some students not realizing the importance of the test, or not treating it with the required seriousness, as it is a diagnostic test aimed at measurement and not final evaluation.
The departments confirmed that diagnostic tests are an essential tool in the educational process, as they enable English language teachers to accurately identify students’ strengths and weaknesses, which helps in preparing remedial and supportive plans that suit the needs of each student within the classroom, and contributes to improving their linguistic level during the semester.
The schools stressed the importance of students’ commitment to showing up on time, and the need for them to take the test with a spirit of responsibility and seriousness, noting that facing some difficulties during the test is normal, but rather an indicator that helps the teacher provide appropriate support in the subsequent stage.
Formative assessment
School administrations also announced that the test will be counted among the 10 marks added to the formative assessment for the second semester, in a step aimed at enhancing students’ interest in the test and motivating them to make the maximum effort possible.
The schools called on parents to cooperate with educational bodies, prepare their children psychologically and academically for the test, and stress the importance of showing their true level, which will reflect positively on the quality of educational support provided to them and improve their academic performance in the future.
Private school principals confirmed that diagnostic tests are one of the basic pillars of the modern educational process, as they aim to measure the true level of students away from the concept of success or failure. These tests help teachers and school administrations understand educational gaps and identify skills that need to be strengthened or addressed, whether at the individual or entire class level. It also contributes to directing teaching methods, diversifying educational strategies, and building more accurate and effective academic support programs, ensuring improved learning outcomes and raising the efficiency of academic achievement in the long term.
