The Board of Trustees of the UAE University holds its first meeting in 2026

Al Ain, January 29 / WAM / The Board of Trustees of the United Arab Emirates University held its first meeting for the year 2026, chaired by His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to His Highness the President of the State, Supreme President of the University.

During the meeting, His Excellency expressed his gratitude to the Council members and external advisors for their firm commitment to supporting the university’s mission and strategic goals.

The Council watched a presentation on the university’s progress in the Times Higher Education University Rankings 2026 and the measurable progress it has made in the areas of medicine and health, educational studies, and engineering, achieving a top position in the top 175 in these areas, while maintaining its position in six other areas.

The Council stressed that these results reflect regular development in prominent academic fields, stressing the commitment to continuing this progress in the coming year.

The Council also reviewed the university’s distinguished research achievements, including being the first in the UAE to exceed 30,000 publications in the Scopus database, which reflects leadership in research excellence, innovation and global impact.

The most prominent historical achievements in publishing were reviewed, starting with the university’s first research publication in 1978, reaching 100 cumulative publications in 1988, and then exceeding 1,000 publications per year for the first time in 2018, achieving a record production of more than 3,500 publications in 2025, the highest annual rate in the university’s history.

The Council also reviewed the Key Performance Indicators Report for 2025, which provided an overview of the university’s performance compared to its strategic goals and focused on progress in key areas, including the student success rate, research and innovation, and societal impact, in addition to monitoring the improvement in on-time graduation rates, academic accreditation of programs, in addition to global research rankings.

The Council affirmed its commitment to using the performance indicators framework to continue development and support strategic decision-making.

The Council approved the proposed amendments to the Bachelor’s Program in Computer Engineering, to highlight the growing role of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, and that the program will be renamed to become “The Bachelor’s Program in Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence,” to meet the growing demand from graduates with integrated skills in artificial intelligence.

These amendments are in line with the national priorities within the UAE University’s agenda for artificial intelligence and digital transformation, and support the achievement of the university’s strategic goals to provide education that keeps pace with the future.

The updated curriculum includes updating the basics of the program and adding specialized courses in artificial intelligence, while canceling old courses, with the aim of enhancing graduates’ employment opportunities and maintaining the program’s global competitiveness.

At the conclusion of the meeting, His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh expressed his appreciation for the contributions of the members of the Board of Trustees, stressing their vital role in shaping the future of the United Arab Emirates University.
