Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi witnesses the UAE National Orchestra’s concert

Sharjah, January 30, 2017 – Sheikh Dr. Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, witnessed this evening the concert of the National Orchestra of the United Arab Emirates, which was held at the theater of the Sharjah Academy for Performing Arts, affiliated with the University of the Arts, in the University City.

The concert, the first in the Emirate of Sharjah, comes as a culmination of a series of musical and artistic events held by the National Orchestra of the United Arab Emirates in various parts of the country, with the aim of expanding the scope of cultural participation and providing musical experiences that reflect the national heritage and the spirit of innovation.

Sheikha Alia bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Director General of the National Orchestra of the United Arab Emirates, delivered a speech in which she addressed the efforts and goals of establishing the orchestra as a major cultural project that complements the cultural renaissance in the Emirates in all fields, pointing to the ancient history of music in Emirati society.

Sheikha Alia bint Khalid Al Qasimi stressed the importance of music and its role in life and society. She said that music is the language that the world speaks when words fail us, and it transcends borders when walls isolate us, and unites feelings when ideas and conflicts separate us. With music, people’s cultures and human stories fuse to prove that the human experience is the same across different races and ethnicities.

The concert began with the UAE national anthem, after which the orchestra continued its performance with a performance that celebrated the musical heritage rooted in Emirati culture, combining melody, rhythm, and the interaction of place, expressing the features of the beginnings of the formation of Emirati music through poetry, popular gatherings, and their connection to people’s lives on all occasions, folk tales, societal memory, and the environment.

The orchestra presented a distinguished performance whose creative elements were based on various traditional styles of folk and heritage arts in the Emirates, including Al-Taghrouda, Al-Ayyala, Al-Aahla and Al-Nadba. The performance expressed an authentic artistic experience that highlighted the values ​​of belonging and cohesion, and highlighted the role of music in preserving heritage and strengthening community ties across generations.

The concert included the “The Beginning” symphony, an Emirati symphony performed for the first time, composed by Nadim Tarbi, which mixes traditional melodies with a symphonic template, and a group of international musical pieces.

The UAE National Orchestra is a cultural initiative that aims to establish a national orchestra based on the Emirati musical heritage, enhance community cohesion, develop the music sector in the country, and support national talent through professional paths that provide opportunities for musicians.

Youssef Al Amiri, Minister of Education, and a number of senior officials, musicians, and those interested in heritage and culture.
