Reem Al Hashemi chairs the fourth session of the UAE-Ukrainian Joint Committee

ABU DHABI, 30 JANUARY / WAM / Her Excellency Reem Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Her Excellency Taras Kachka, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Affairs, chaired the work of the fourth session of the joint committee between the UAE and Ukraine, which was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi.

The meeting witnessed the participation of senior officials and representatives of nearly 30 government and private sector entities from both sides, reflecting the common interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation in priority areas, such as trade and investments, cooperation in the field of energy and renewable energy, industry, logistics, agriculture, water, health, space, culture, sports and youth empowerment.

During the meeting, Her Excellency Al Hashemi indicated that the joint committee is an important platform for reviewing the progress achieved since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992, stressing that bilateral relations have continued to develop on the basis of mutual trust, constructive dialogue, and convergence of development goals.

Her Excellency expressed her confidence that the entry into force of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) will contribute to expanding trade and investment ties and opening new horizons for the business communities in the two countries.

Her Excellency called on the business community in the UAE to explore opportunities for cooperation in the Ukrainian markets, especially in the fields of ports, logistics services, construction, and traditional and renewable energy.

The convening of the joint committee came in light of the growing momentum witnessed in UAE-Ukrainian relations, as the two sides seek to expand areas of cooperation and enhance coordination between government institutions and the private sector, which contributes to creating transcontinental partnerships and enhancing global prosperity.

The UAE affirmed its continued commitment to supporting economic recovery efforts in Ukraine, by enhancing work in priority development sectors, encouraging investment-based growth, and contributing to rebuilding vital infrastructure, in addition to activities related to humanitarian work.

Her Excellency Al Hashemi welcomed the UAE’s hosting of the tripartite consultations last week that brought together Russia, Ukraine, and the United States in Abu Dhabi to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which embodies the international community’s confidence in the country’s pioneering role and its consistent approach to supporting peace, and turning challenges into real opportunities for the peoples of the two countries and the peoples of all the region, appreciating the efforts made by His Excellency US President Donald Trump in facilitating these talks, consolidating stability, and pushing towards the political path.

She praised the role of the UAE in mediation, as it had succeeded in completing 17 mediation processes for the exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine, according to which 4,641 prisoners were released between the two sides, which reflects the depth of the relations between the UAE and the two countries, and embodies its role as a reliable mediator in supporting diplomatic and humanitarian solutions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the minutes of the work of the joint committee were signed, where the two sides stressed the importance of continuing consultations and enhancing coordination between the concerned parties.

On the sidelines of the committee’s work, a letter of intent was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE and the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine for cooperation in the field of food security.

The letter aims to exchange experiences, data and best practices, in addition to encouraging commercial partnerships and joint investments in the fields of agriculture and the manufacture and distribution of agricultural products, within the framework of the common direction to expand cooperation during the next stage.
