The Eastern Kalba Marine Festival 2026 enhances national identity

SHARJAH, 30th JANUARY / WAM / The activities of the second edition of the Al Sharqiyah Kalba Marine Festival 2026, organized by Al Sharqiyah Channel from Kalba and the Sharjah Sports Channel, affiliated with the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority, continued today, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and will continue until next February 1, in cooperation with the Sharjah Marine Sports Club.

The festival witnessed the launch of the rowing tournament, which attracted participants from various emirates of the country and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in a marine sporting spectacle that embodies the spirit of cooperation and teamwork and highlights the place of traditional marine sports in the history of the region. The tournament comes within the festival’s vision aimed at merging sports and heritage and reintroducing marine racing in a modern style that keeps pace with the aspirations of young people.

Yesterday, the festival witnessed the launch of the fishing tournament for kingfish and yodder, which is considered one of the most prominent marine events associated with the historical extension of the fishing profession, which formed a basic pillar in the lives of the people of the Eastern Region, with the participation of a wide range of amateurs and professionals in a competitive atmosphere that reflects inherited traditional fishing skills amid an integrated organization that takes into account safety standards and preservation of the marine environment. The tournament aims to revive the marine heritage and enhance awareness of the values ​​of the sea and its role in shaping the cultural identity of Emirati society.

In addition to the marine tournaments, the festival will witness many accompanying activities that reflect the richness of folklore, including folk games, songs, traditional arts, and popular food that expresses traditional Emirati cuisine, in addition to displaying ancient crafts and crafts associated with the coastal environment, such as fishing tools, net making, and other crafts that shaped daily life in the past.

The Eastern Kalba Marine Festival offers an integrated cultural and heritage experience that combines marine competitions and popular events within a framework that enhances national identity and supports cultural and marine tourism in the city of Kalba, confirming its position as one of the most prominent marine heritage festivals in the Emirate of Sharjah.
