Fears in the Democratic Republic of Congo that 200 people have been killed.. What is their story?
The government declared a republic in a statement about fears of at least two hundred deaths in on Wednesday at the Rubaya mining site controlled by in the east of the country.
The Rubaya site produces between 15 and 30% of the world’s coltan, a mineral from which tantalum is extracted, which is considered an essential element in the manufacture of modern electronic equipment.
It is controlled by the movement "M23" Anti-government backed by Rwanda since April 2024.
