Exhibition opening "Past from here" At Maraya Arts Center

Sharjah, 1st February / WAM / The “Past from Here” exhibition opened today at the Maraya Arts Center, under the supervision of the Barjeel Arts Foundation, and includes 52 artistic works executed by 31 students from the American University of Sharjah.
The exhibition addresses the idea of the formation, disintegration, and transformation of memory through experience and focuses on the effects of personal and collective histories, tracing how memory, uprooting, nostalgia, and aspirations for the future are manifested through artistic practices.
The opening was attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Saud Al Qasimi, founder of the Barjeel Arts Foundation, and His Excellency Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, Executive Director of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), along with students and a number of visitors.
Sheikh Sultan bin Saud Al Qasimi said that the exhibition reveals the great potential that unfolds when students are given the confidence to lead and when the art collection is treated as a space for research and dialogue, not as a final arrival point.
For her part, Suhaila Taksh, an academic at the American University of Sharjah, said that the works participating in the exhibition were from students from diverse academic backgrounds, including architecture, multimedia design, visual communication, journalism, and business administration. Each of them brought his own perspective and, over the course of the semester, they explored and discussed the role of art in shaping collective narratives and conducted original research by interacting with the work of the Barjeel Group and conducting interviews with the artists and their families.
