"Big Heart Foundation" Employs visual narratives to support humanitarian work in… "Exposure 2026"

Sharjah, February 2, 2017 – WAM / At the International Photography Festival “Xposure 2026”, the photo is transformed from a documentation tool into a humanitarian act that carries the meaning of giving, and through a special visual initiative that stems from a humanitarian photography book, the Big Heart Foundation uses visual narration to support its ongoing humanitarian programs, calling on the public to interact with the photos as partners in creating a positive impact that goes beyond the boundaries of the exhibition.

The Foundation presents a visual art exhibition based on the book “From the Lens of Ibn Sharjah”, a photographic book completed through institutional cooperation between the Executive Office of the Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, and the Big Heart Foundation.

The exhibition includes a selection of photos taken by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the humanitarian envoy of the Big Heart Foundation, during field visits that accompanied the Foundation’s humanitarian work in a number of countries.

The selections contained in the book form the artistic basis for the exhibition held within “Exposure 2026”, where a group of photographic works are displayed for sale within the framework of a humanitarian initiative, which aims to transform artistic appreciation into tangible support for humanitarian work. The images present a contemplative visual language that departs from the traditional frameworks of humanitarian photography, focusing on the quiet moments, the human presence, and the features of the place as seen by the photographer through his lens.

The exhibition also includes the book “What Remains of Memory,” which provides a visual reading of the Big Heart Foundation’s work in contexts of displacement, highlighting stories of resilience and continuity in the lives of affected communities, reflecting the Foundation’s long-term commitment to supporting people in various circumstances.

The exhibition invites its visitors to support the Big Heart Foundation’s humanitarian mission by purchasing the displayed images, as all proceeds from the sale are allocated to support the Foundation’s humanitarian programs.

This comes within the integrated “Xposure 2026” experience in the world of visual storytelling, and in line with the slogan of its tenth session, “A Decade of Visual Storytelling,” to embody the convergence of the vision of “Xposure” and the Big Heart Foundation, about the power of the image in building empathy, deepening understanding, stimulating human action, and linking art with human responsibility in a sincere and profound spirit.
