Mamdani said that the city had set up warming centers and activated a fleet of 20 vehicles equipped with teams of health care professionals.

He continued: "As of this morning, we have conducted more than 930 placements in shelters and safe havens, and have involuntarily removed 18 New Yorkers who were found to be a danger to themselves or others"

Between 2005 and 2020, the death toll recorded from frost-related deaths in New York ranged between 9 and 27 annually, according to official statistics, and this number rose to 34 in 2021 and 54 in 2022.
