The UAE pledges $500 million to support humanitarian needs in Sudan

The UAE participated in the Sudan Donors Conference hosted by the United States, where Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh headed the participating UAE delegation.
During the conference, the UAE pledged to provide $500 million to respond to urgent humanitarian needs in Sudan, reflecting its firm commitment to ensuring that life-saving aid reaches civilians affected by the devastating civil war.
The UAE also expressed its deep appreciation to the United States for hosting this conference at a very important time, and for continuing to shed light on the humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan, especially with the approaching month of Ramadan.
In this context, Nusseibeh said: “We commend President Trump’s leadership in supporting a Sudan that enjoys peace, unity and stability.”
She added: “Today, more than 30 million Sudanese – more than half of Sudan’s population – need humanitarian assistance. To contribute to meeting these needs, in addition to the generous pledge from the United States, the UAE is committed to providing $500 million to respond to urgent humanitarian needs in Sudan. This contribution embodies our firm commitment to ensuring that basic life-saving needs reach civilians affected by this devastating civil war.”
She also praised the distinguished efforts made by Tom Fletcher, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), in supporting the Sudanese people, as well as the collective efforts made through the Quartet.
She added: “The Quartet has affirmed a principled and consistent position – which the UAE has adopted since the outbreak of this crisis – which is that the future of Sudan must be decided by its people… Achieving this requires a permanent ceasefire and a serious transitional process led by an inclusive civilian government, completely independent of both parties to the conflict and extremist groups, including those linked to the Muslim Brotherhood.”
She reiterated the UAE’s support for an immediate ceasefire, allowing humanitarian organizations to deliver their aid to all parts of Sudan.
In this regard, she stressed the need not to politicize humanitarian aid or use it as a weapon, stressing the importance of allocating humanitarian and development projects to women and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
She also stressed that the UAE’s commitment to Sudan is firm, noting that over the past decade, the country has provided aid to Sudan worth more than $4.24 billion, including humanitarian aid worth $800 million since 2023.
Following the conference, Nusseibeh participated in the Quartet meeting with Massad Boulos, advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, along with representatives of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
