Any agreement with Iran must protect our “vital interests”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, in a video statement published by his office on Monday, that any potential agreement with Iran must ensure the preservation of Israel’s “vital interests”, in light of the ongoing moves to reach a settlement of the crisis.

Netanyahu explained that he had a call with US President Donald Trump, where they discussed developments in the Iranian file and the possibility of investing the results of military operations in reaching an agreement.

He added that Trump believes that “there is an opportunity to benefit from the great achievements of the Israeli army and the American army in order to achieve the goals of the war through an agreement, an agreement that preserves our vital interests.”

Netanyahu stressed that military operations are continuing in parallel with the political track, adding: “At the same time, we continue attacks in both Iran and Lebanon. We target the missile program and the nuclear program precisely, and we continue to direct harsh blows to Hezbollah.”

He pointed to the continuation of qualitative operations, saying: “Just a few days ago we eliminated two additional nuclear scientists, and we still have more,” stressing at the conclusion of his statements: “We will preserve our vital interests in any circumstance.”

A correspondent for the Axios news website had reported earlier that US Vice President J.D. Vance phoned Netanyahu on Monday and discussed with him an attempt to launch negotiations between the United States and Iran.

A source familiar with the details said that Vance and Netanyahu discussed the components of a possible agreement aimed at ending the war with Iran, according to the reporter.
