The Ministry of Foreign Affairs participates in the global dialogue on formulating water and sustainable development issues at the World Government Summit 2026

Dubai, February 5 / WAM / His Excellency Abdullah Al-Alaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, participated in high-level discussions on water, sustainability and future global development during the World Government Summit 2026.

Participation in the World Government Summit comes as a continuation of the momentum that accompanied the high-level preparatory meeting held recently in Dakar during the period (January 26-27, 2026) for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, where the co-chairs of the six interactive dialogues officially assumed their role for the first time. Participation in this summit also contributes to supporting the ongoing preparations for the conference to be held in Abu Dhabi at the end of this year.

During the summit activities, His Excellency Al-Alaa chaired a dialogue session entitled “Mobilizing global leadership in the field of water ahead of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference,” hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which focused on strengthening political leadership in the field of water.

The session brought together political leaders and senior decision-makers, including Her Excellency Mutale Nalumango, Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, Her Excellency Sheikh Tidian, Minister of Water and Sanitation of the Republic of Senegal, Li Guanhua, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Economic and Social Affairs, and His Excellency Makhen Javier Diaz, Minister of Finance and Economy of the Dominican Republic.

This participation highlighted the pivotal role of water in development and prosperity, and on accelerating the pace of achievement and achieving the desired impact ahead of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, hosted by the UAE and the Republic of Senegal.

Commenting on the discussions that took place during the summit, His Excellency Al-Alaa stressed that the World Government Summit reminds us that the decisions we make today will determine how societies live, grow, and prosper tomorrow. Water, energy, food systems, and technologies that are reshaping our world represent the essence of sustainable development and the ability to withstand and face the challenges of the future.

He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ participation clearly reflects the UAE’s commitment to building partnerships aimed at translating shared ambition into lasting impact, as we look forward to holding the 2026 United Nations Water Conference.

Participation in the World Government Summit provided the opportunity to exchange views, test and review ideas, discuss assumptions and assumptions, and form approaches to enhance government cooperation in an era of accelerating change.

On the sidelines of the World Government Summit, His Excellency also held bilateral ministerial meetings with a number of heads of delegations of countries participating in the summit to exchange views and advance partnerships.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ participation reflects the UAE’s approach to active presence at the international level, within future-oriented discussions, as part of the country’s preparations to host the 2026 United Nations Water Conference in Abu Dhabi.
