The Italian President praises the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity honoring the “Peace Agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia”

Sergio Mattarella, President of the Republic of Italy, praised the selection of the jury of the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity “the historic peace agreement between the Republics of Azerbaijan and Armenia” to honor the award for the year 2026 and granted him this high recognition, stressing Italy’s “tangible and active” support for the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The Italian President said, in a written message read on his behalf by Lorenzo Fanara, Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the country, that “the perseverance and political commitment of the two leaderships that we honor made it possible to lay the foundation for a new phase in relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, after decades of bitter and sometimes bloody confrontation,” expressing his thanks for the role of the international community in supporting the peace process and noting that the tripartite summit held last August at the White House represented the latest form of this support, It contributed to achieving “historic steps forward.”

The Italian President stressed the “determination and vision” shown by President Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, and Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia, in their endeavor to promote peace and reconciliation, not only between the two countries, but also between the two peoples, which contributes to making relations “calmer,” describing this as “an uneasy path, but essential after decades of suffering.”
