المملكة: Fines exceeding 4 million riyals affect 34 facilities that tampered with “Rasd” and the availability of medicine – urgent

I punished The Food and Drug General Authority 34 pharmaceutical facilities were fined in excess of 4 million riyals during the month of January 2026, for violating the controls on the provision of medicines and reporting via the electronic tracking system “Rasd”.

The Authority issued its monthly report, which revealed the monitoring of violations in a number of pharmaceutical facilities, represented by non-compliance with the regulations that ensure the continuous and safe availability of medicine to the patient.

Huge financial fines

The Authority imposed Financial fines amounting to a total of 4,175,400 riyals against negligent establishments, stressing that these measures come to protect the consumer and ensure the stability of drug supplies in the markets.

Topping the list of violations were 13 facilities that did not comply with early reporting of an expected shortage or interruption in drug supplies, ignoring the statutory deadline of no less than 6 months before the expected timing of the interruption.

The supervisory teams monitored 11 facilities. Others failed to provide its registered preparations on the market, regardless of their price or consumption rates, which is a clear violation of its duties towards patients.

The list included 8 facilities that failed to directly and accurately report the movement of medicine within supply chains, which negatively affects the accuracy of electronic tracking data and inventory governance.

Deterrent penalties for violating establishments

The Authority punished two facilities that did not maintain a permanent stock sufficient for 6 months of all their preparations, and did not take the initiative to compensate for the shortfall in stock within the maximum period specified for three months.

The Authority explained that the “Rasd” system works to track and trace all human medicines from the time they leave the factory until they reach the consumer, relying on the latest technical means to combat commercial fraud.

The Authority strongly warned that the penalties are in accordance with the establishments and preparations system. The pharmaceutical facility may reach fines worth 5 million riyals, to deter any negligence that affects the health and safety of society.

She indicated that the regulatory measures do not stop at financial fines, but may extend to temporarily closing the pharmaceutical facility for a period of up to 180 days, or even canceling the license in cases of serious violations.
