Launched Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, a comprehensive monitoring campaign under the title "Readiness Markets and slaughterhouses for the The month of Ramadan, in the Ministry’s branches in various regions of the Kingdom, and with the participation of the regulatory authorities in the environment, water and agriculture system; With the aim of raising the level of operational readiness and ensuring food safety during a season that witnesses an increase in demand.
The campaign aims to ensure the operational readiness of markets and slaughterhouses to meet the needs of consumers during the month of Ramadan with high efficiency, and to intensify field supervision to ensure adherence to the highest standards of compliance, in addition to ensuring food safety and quality of products traded in the markets, improving the level of services provided to beneficiaries, enhancing confidence, and establishing sound health practices among beneficiaries and service providers in markets and slaughterhouses.
Health requirements
In this context, during the campaign, the Ministry’s supervisory teams carried out 6,281 inspection tours of the markets, with the participation of 428 police officers. These rounds resulted in monitoring 1,475 violations and warnings, as part of monitoring compliance with health and regulatory requirements.
The monitoring work included carrying out destruction operations for invalid materials, where they were destroyed. 19,936 kg of vegetables, fruits and dates, and 1,605 kg of meat and poultry, in addition to 727 kg of fish, in order to preserve the safety of consumers and the quality of the supply in the markets.
Veterinary procedures
With regard to slaughterhouses, the total number of slaughtered animals, according to the campaign report, reached 111,322 heads of sheep, cows and camels, while 970 were recorded. One case of total killing, and 10,041 cases of partial killing, in accordance with approved veterinary procedures.
The specialized teams also conducted tests for pesticide residues on agricultural products, and 658 identical samples were examined, compared to 5 non-compliant samples, which were dealt with in accordance with the applicable systems.
Supporting Sustainability
The campaign witnessed the participation of 23 grace-preserving associations, which contributed to benefiting from 16,189 kg of quantities. Al-Salha, in support of sustainability, reducing food waste, and enhancing community work during the holy month.
The Ministry confirmed that this campaign comes within its ongoing efforts to enhance control, ensure food safety, and raise the efficiency of markets and slaughterhouses, in a way that achieves consumer protection, supports quality of life, and is in line with the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
