The UAE is a geographical representative of the Near East region in the Codex Alimentarius Commission.

The UAE won the position of geographical representative for the Near East region in the Codex Alimentarius Commission (Codex), for the period from 2026 to 2028, for the first time, during the meetings of the 48th session of the body held in the Italian capital, Rome.

The UAE was elected, represented by the Deputy Director General of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority for Regulatory and Administrative Affairs and Head of the National Codex Alimentarius Committee, Moza Suhail Al Muhairi.

This win reflects international confidence in the UAE’s pioneering capabilities and its influential contributions to developing food standards and enhancing the food safety system at the global level.

This achievement confirms the growing position of the UAE in international organizations concerned with agriculture and food security, and enhances its presence in formulating international policies and standards, in line with the state’s vision and wise leadership in achieving sustainable agricultural development and ensuring food safety, and reflects the international community’s confidence in the competence of national cadres and their ability to lead strategic files in this vital field.

This choice reinforces the directions of the National Strategy for Food Security 2051, and allows the representation of the Near East Region in the Executive Committee of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, a position distinguished by its strategic importance, as the geographical representative participates in drawing general directions, developing strategic plans, and managing the programs of the Codex Alimentarius Commission on international food standards, ensuring that the specificity of the countries of the region is taken into account, in terms of dietary patterns and productive, economic and health conditions.

Moza Al Muhairi is considered a national leader with administrative and scientific experience spanning more than 25 years in government work. She contributed to establishing the food control system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which strengthened the emirate’s position in global food safety indicators, achieving first place in the Middle East.
