Did Britney Spears sell her music archive?

The international star, Britney Spears, surprised her fans by announcing the sale of her large music archive to the international music publishing company “Primary Wave,” which also owns a huge artistic archive for major artists, such as: Prince, Bob Marley, Stevie Nicks, and Whitney Houston.

According to the global website (TMZ), the deal was concluded between the two parties last December, while its financial value has not yet been announced, but it was estimated at about $200 million.

Britney Spears’s archive includes her most prominent songs, which constitute major successes, which she performed over the course of 25 years, most notably: “Crazy, Baby One More Time, Break The Ice, Circus, Everytime, Gimme More, and Womanizer.”

It seems that Britney Spears followed in the footsteps of international stars who preceded her, as they sold their first famous songs for astronomical sums of money, such as: Shakira, Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, and Bruce Springsteen, as the latter had given up the rights to his songs to Sony, in 2021, for half a billion dollars. The same company also bought the entire archive of the band “Queen” in 2024, for an amount estimated at one billion dollars.

Britney Spears (44 years old) is considered one of the most successful and famous international pop singers. She has released nine albums during her career, the last of which was Spears’ ninth album, “Glory,” in 2016. She has topped song charts around the world since her debut with the song “Baby One More Time” in 1998.

It is not known, specifically, why Britney Spears’ archive was sold, and whether it is related to an artistic step she took, as did her former colleagues, or a possible result of a group of thorny issues that the international star has gone through in recent years, after she lived for nearly 14 years, under legal guardianship, which forced her to pay lawyers’ fees to manage her life’s affairs, without allowing her to make decisions related to her personal affairs, her professional career, or her money, before a judge ended this guardianship in the year. 2021.

This is something that Britney referred to, personally, in her memoirs, which were published in 2023, entitled: “The Woman in Me.” At the time, Britney Spears revealed the impact of this stage in her life, stressing that the guardianship even controlled the details of her day, from her diet to her decisions related to childbearing, noting that it robbed her of her femininity and made her feel like a child.

Britney Spears achieved widespread fame in the late 1990s, but she has largely moved away from the music scene in recent years, but the information spread about her in recent months indicates her intention to release a new album, related to the life circumstances she has gone through in recent years.
